RIO NEGRO(part 1) 28/01/2008

rio-negro-1.jpg

Besides the sound of the water in my fish tank the studio is now in complete silence…
It’s a wind night , unusually cold for this time of the year.
A few hours ago all you could hear was the sound of my tattoo machine running for the first time in 2008.
Everything I did today in between the time I woke up and the time I stepped on my footswitch to do the first line of the year was done with one single aim in my mind:
-To make sure that the session “numero uno” was a enjoyable one for both me and my costumer.
It’s almost midnight and I’m now sitting in my living room writing these lines, for the first time as well in 2008 , smoking my cigar and feeling nothing but satisfaction.
It’s been only 10 days since my return from the Amazon and thanks to the speed of things in a city like São Paulo I can’t help it feeling that much more time than that has already passed.
To navigate the RIO NEGRO for days on a wooden ship having nothing else to look at but the sky , the water and the forest made me think about the importance traveling at the “right” speed…meaning that there’s a certain speed that allows the alignment of one’s body, mind and soul making the true contemplation and assimilation of one’s surroundings a reality…any faster than that you’re no longer “traveling”…you’re simply moving.
I also realized that regardless of being at one of the most fantastic places on earth , another journey was happening at the same time…inwards…towards parts of myself only reachable under such circumstances…reminding me once again that in the end no matter what, the inside is always more important than the outside.
And right now , at least based on what I’ve been reading since the day I got back to the city , all that matters on the outside  is who will be the next lucky man or woman to take over what Mr.Bush left of the American empire and how will the stock markets around the world react to the economic mess of that same empire…
To add more drama to a already chaotic scenario on both hemispheres the third largest French bank is blaming one of it’s own dealers for a all time record US$ 7 billion trading loss….
Considering that January hasn’t even finished yet , it looks like it will be an interesting year…WELCOME TO THE YEAR OF THE RAT…..rio-negro-3.jpg
