  9. Mr Matsui,

What a journey it was….from the emails and phone calls across countries - to the flights to and from Japan and LA for both of us, to the Yoga style posses we created to make the tattoo happen.

I would not have wanted anyone else to do this piece - from the start of this story to this chapter you were there. Some of the best times this year were at the start of this piece when we were just sitting in Tokyo at your studio shooting the shit and hanging out.

Thank you for taking what I wanted to the next level. Those four days are a great memory in many ways - and they will always stay with me.

It looks amazing and it grows on me every day. Thanks Jun…..

    Matto

  10. Wow these pictures are great! was wondering if the writing was in Arabic or Persian and what it said. And to think I was just in LA and decided to wait to get my tattoo in Tokyo cause I know of a really good place… great and you were in LA! when will you be back in Tokyo?

  12. Mr. Matsui,

Through you, I see a glimpse of the life I someday hope to lead.

If you should ever pass through or have a client in Phoenix, please let me know!

    Respect,

  13. The work is a combination of the persona of Mat and the skill of the artist ( and is demonstrated strongly in the work). Since he first left NZ and moved into SEAsia and then Japan he started his journey home and became part of that culture again that headed South back in time and has returned through this union. I stand in awe of the coming together of the artist and the subject and the communion that has taken place. It is said that a good soul wears their heart on their sleeve (this transcends this). Our origins see Koru for the final flight back North from our Southern world; it is all here in an essence and words do not need to be expressed. Ron (friend and father)
