「新しいスタジオの場所を探し出して引っ越し」という一連の騒動が片付いた後、休暇をとりタイでリラックスするはずだったが、「仕事」もまた一緒にピーピー島へ持ち込んでいた・・・

Even though I was in Thailand on a personal trip relaxing after the drama of finding a new space and moving the studio I also took with me some “work” to do while in the PHI PHI island…

去年の１２月、「刀」のタトゥーを入れて欲しい、という依頼があった・・・前にも一度やった経験があるが、初めて依頼された時、その熱意にとても驚かされた記憶がある・・・それは今回も例外ではなかった。

それをタイの安らぎの中で描こうと決めた・・・外国人が書いた本の中にある、日本刀について書かれた記述をいくつか読んだが、あまり興味をかき立てられるものではなかった・・・日本において、かつて刀はただのコレクション以上の意味があった・・・単に武器というだけではなく、日常の一部であり、「美しさ」「力」「精神」の象徴だった・・・今では過去のもの・・・アメリカ人を前に刀を放棄しなければならなかった日本人。そして先祖代々、何百年もの間受け継がれてきた「刀」は失われてしまった・・・今ではアメリカやイギリスの博物館、個人宅に飾られている刀を見る事ができる。

時代は変わった。セッションが終わり、鏡に映る自分の姿を見つめるクライエントの表情を見ると、自分も笑顔になる・・・彼はその「刀」を長い間持ち続けるだろう・・・
Last december received a request for a tattoo of a KATANA…I have done one before and was very surprised and enthusiastic about the request the first time it happened…and this time wasn’t different.

I decided to draw it peacefully in Thailand…of course I have read parts of books written by foreigners about the japanese sword , but those texts could never keep my attention for too long…the KATANA was once more than a collectors item in Japan…it was part of everyday life , not only as a weapon but as a symbol of beauty , power and spirituality…that’s now just history…the japanese had to surrender their swords to the american occupation forces and KATANAS that have been passed on from generation to generation for hundreds of years were gone forever…now you can see them on display at private homes and museums in america and england.

Times are different now and to wacth the expression on my client’s face at the end of the session as he looks at himself in the mirror brings a smile to my face…he will be carrying this one for a long time…
